Ostomy Glossary
This glossary has been compiled for those caring for people with bladder and bowel stomas. Some words have a more general meaning, but in this glossary the main context is stoma surgery, care, and management.
The glossary also describes common terms used in association with colorectal disease, diagnostics, and conservative and surgical bowel management. However, the authors recognise that the field of colorectal stoma care is evolving, and this first edition is not totally comprehensive. Other terms and definitions will be added to future editions, and the editor welcomes any suggestions and contributions.
We hope that gaining a better understanding of the terminology used in this specialised field of nursing will enhance your daily work caring for patients.
